#16: Echidna's

So these little creatures can become not so little. A friend of ours is the local wires man, and he turned up to a birthday party with his little friend.
This echidna is a male one and he was a bit cranky when the kids tried to spy him out in the container he was in. However he was still very cute and as my sister said in one of his photo's he looks like he is saying "i dunno". Lucky for us you do not see these as road kill often on the side of the road. I have been told that is a good thing as they will puncture yor tyre!!!
Everytime I see them I think of the Bonds ad of years ago when the ants were crawling on the model and she says: "Sick 'em Rex". Cranky or not they are still very cute. Love it.

Number 15 in 101 good, bad and ugly things of Cobar:

So number 15 today is : People coming to town. Way back in June, when it was the rugby league season. The David Peachy foundation in conjuction with NSW Country Rugby Leauge came to Cobar and did a footy clinic. This was fantastic. Not only were they promoting the sport, and healthy issues, the clinic was open to under 5yr olds.

This is usually unheared of for most sports.

When I had my first child I was quite easily able to manipulate her into doing things I wanted her to do. However 2nd born wants to do what 1st born does, and usually with sport one has to be 6 and older. So telling him NO he can not join in has been on occasion a nighmare. So imagine my surprise when I saw the ad in the paper saying they were going to do an under 5's footy clinic.

Here was a "boy" sport that he could do.

This was a fun couple of hours and it's good to see that there are some sports people out there who have not forgotten their roots. So a big gold star to David Peachy and his foundation for remembering that there are kids in the bush as well as city kids that like to play footy!!!

#14 in GB&U of Cobarland

So the rain it came down..... We don't get much freak storms of the wet variety. But for the second time in 4years we had hail. It came down and did not stop for over an hour.
Do not know what I like better dust storms or rain storms!!!

#13 of GB&U: Butterflies.
November is the time of year that we see the butterflies. When we came out here from Sydney we seemed to be driving though a sea of butterflies. It was the only bright spot in a very emotional journey (that and the margarita's the night before at some resturant).

This year they are around but not in the number's of past summers.
I thought I'd put in the ladybeetle as well, 'cause their cute.

Want to upload more pics as we went to the local dirt bike meet the other night and they had fireworks Gabby won the "who gets to detinate the fireworks" raffle. Of course I stuffed up the pics so only have one of her besdie the box. So when I get to work this stuff out I will post more.

#12 of G,B&U of Cobarland: Santa at the pool.
Ever since we have been in Cobar, the social club that is run by brownboy's work has always had the children's Christmas party at the pool. This is a great day, hot dogs, snow cones, lollies, cooling down in the pool and going on the water slide!! Of course I'm not forgetting the big man. One year Santa bought water super soakers and the little lovies (and some big ones as well) went to town on the adults.
Alas this year it is to be no more. The water slide is getting replaced so is out of action for I think all summer. This is something which makes my blood boil. The council could have had this replaced with brand spanker BEFORE the pool opened in October.
Anyway the reason we are not having the chrissy party at the pool? New regs bought in by the state government children under 5 must be in the water with an adult within arms reach and kiddies 5 to 9 or 10 I think need to be within 3 metres of said child. Most parents with kids of the 2nd age group do not get in the pool with thier kids. So there you go. I think I'll put that on under ugly or maybe sad.
fyi: kiddy party is going to be at the Rugby club for family sports day. No shade and it will be around 40 degrees wooohoooo.

#11 in Good, Bad and Ugly in Cobarland: The mines. I have only been to one of the 3 major mines out here. The pictures are of Peak Gold mine. This is where Michael Brown works.
I have yet to go underground, there is (in my mind of course) something not right about going that far into the earth. I do not like going on the Sydney Harbour tunnel either.
Just as a matter of trivia.....the ground that we are used to seeing is black or in outback land red, but once one gets a few kilmeter's under the earth's surface it changes to a white grey colour. The same colour a cement. How do I know this? Well one of the first days Brown boy started at Peakypeak he came home covered in cement and cement dust and I lost it at him telling him I would not wash that crap in my machine, turns out it's dirt....underground dirt.
Learn a new thing everyday .

#10 on Good,Bad and Ugly things in Cobar: Big mining things...
If not every day at least every second day there are big overloaded trucks coming through town.
Most do not have police escort, most however have their own private escorts. It's an interesting site to watch and wonder on just how much the mining boom is in this country

#9: EMU'S: These pesky creatures are interesting, fascinating, dorky and dangerous.....mainly when they go through your windscreen on your car!!!
Also hate them when they are tame as they become way too curious and a little bit on the pecky side.
They are however terribly cute when they are babies and the eggs that they lay are a beautiful jade green. If you ever get to the township of St. George in Southern Queensland, go check out the museum there of carved emu eggs.

#8 in Cobarland: RED DIRT.
This stuff is EVERYWHERE, and to make matters worse it does not come out of your clothes. When we first moved here first born would put on one of her many pretty white dresses. Now when she puts on her pretty black or navy dresses I am calm. I have learnt to live with it and can even live with the the kids getting their clothes stained, it's just I miss wearing white,or actually any light coloured pants. One day I will not have little kids running round my house who liketo give me hugs and I will miss that but no way will I ever miss the red hand prints that came with thoses hugs!!

oopps. Wow the last post was July. How quickly has time flown.
So what's been happening????
Well I quit my job as a therapy facillitator. This is so I can try and get little Aj ready for school. We are as I type having extreme difficulty in trying to find a private speech pathologist. I am awaiting people from Griffith to get back to me as I have tried Dubbo and there is long waiting lists or the speechy's are no longer working.
So here we are getting back to GB&U of Cobar. I will post nuber 8 right now......

#7 in G,B& U of Cobarland......Kangaroo's.....Love them and think they are fantastic but the last thing you need to see is one on the side of the road especially at night!!

Imagine the stories you could tell

#5 in GBI&U of Cobarland: the never ending roads
I love the small town feel and community spirit that makes Cobar the place that it is, but I detest the driving to go anywhere. To get to the nearest large town is 4 hours west, 4hours south, 3 hours east and I would say at a guess 4 hours north. Driving is in no way plesureable as you have to watch out for kangaroo's,emu's foxes, goats and sometimes sheep or cattle and overtaking b double trucks is just plain sucky. So there you go number 5 is going to be classed as UGLY!!!

#4 in GBI&U....Mt Grenfell.
This is about an hours drive west of here and have the most amazing

Aboriginal rock art. It's a fun day out as well as it's not too far

of a drive and if your lucky you get to see some wildlife on or around the road. We are off there this weekend for a friends 8th birthday "picnic party".
Where the drawing's were done was apparently where the local aboriginal's would go when it was flooding. Truly amazing of how one can keep their histroy alive without the aid of modern technology.

#3 of GBU&I of Cobar.....GROG
Everyone out here drinks, some more than others I will grant you that, but most people out here know their wines. It's funny how you will turn up to someone's house for a bbq and there are people drinking 70 dollar wines. Cheese is another one where I have found Cobar people to be a bit snobbish as well.
It's funny how a lot of people I know think we live in the backwater docks of hell and therfore all around us must be ignorant hicks, but there they are wrong. Cobar people know their wines, what is good, bad and just plain ugly and they are also well travelled, most of my Sydney friends would have no idea where I grew up just that it's somewhere in Queensland, but Cobar people have a grasp a geography.......just because one chooses not to live in a large central city or town does not make them any less educated than the ones who do. Actually I have found the opposite to be true!!!

#2.....Changing of the season's. We don't get much variety out here in the way of garden's. So once and awhile it's nice to see tree's changing colour. Don't get me wrong, Australian native look is fantastic but most people do not embrace that look so they go for the tradtional look but when one lives where it can get up to over 40 degree's for a couple months at a time there is not a huge variety one can grow.
So when I see these tree's it reminds me that the small things in life can colour your day.

101 things Good, Bad, Ugly, and Interesting of Cobar.......................

#1 My family.........
love them to death. They are on the good list, allthough sometimes they all or some of them can get on the interesting list, don't want to publically say they have been on the ugly or bad list hehehe
Ok so have decided to steal an idea off a very good friend's blog and do 101 good, bad and ugly things of Cobarland and surrounding areas.........That is why I have not posted things for awhile have been searching.

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

so it's been like nearly 2 months since I've last typed anything up.

Not much to say I guess.

Actually have just started a new job and getting my head round that is well doing my head in.

I'm now the REACH therapy facillitator. I implement the programs that the O.T's/speechy's or child psychologist's write up , but due to living in the outback they are unable to do it themselves.

Aidan is one of my clients hahaha. That's fun. I'm enjoying it though, just a shock to the old bod about getting up dressed and happy game face on with the kids in the morning. Am struggling to work out how I had Gabby at kindy at 7am and me at work by 7:30am when we lived in Sydney.

Anyway life at the moment is good and everyone seems happy and healthy.

Have decided to steal a friends idea.....look out for new pics soon
